Glenn Daidone & Kate Ryab
July 22 - August 03, 2005
The William-Scott Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of two solo exhibitions by photographer Glenn Daidone and painter Kate Ryan, on view July 22 to August 3, 2005. Please join us for an artists’ reception, Friday, July 22, from 7 to 9pm.
Photographer Glenn Daidone’s evocative images of Cape Cod are inspired by the architecture and landscape of the region, and depict moments of quietude and simplicity. His work celebrates unconventional subjects such as boarded up houses, telephone poles, guardrails, and parking lots. Digitally printed on watercolor paper, the work takes on a rich, luscious quality. Daidone further enhances his images through the use of filters, altering the tone and color, or slightly blurring the image to create a sense of nostalgia and timelessness..
Daidone holds an M.F.A from the Pratt Institute, and a B.A from Cooper Union, both in New York City. He has worked professionally as an architectural photographer for fifteen years, and his commercial work has appeared in such publications as Metropolitan Home, House Beautiful and House and Garden. The artist resides in Miami and Provincetown. |

Kate Ryan

Ordinary, every day objects populate Kate Ryan’s exquisite still life paintings. At first glance the work appears to be rendered with a precise realist sensibility, yet further inspection of the complex patterns of light and shadow reveal the artist’s fascination with abstract forms. The reflection of faceted glass resembles a spider’s web, the basin of a sink becomes a swirling vortex, and the center of a marble conjures the eye of a cat. Ryan infuses her paintings with playfulness and possibility, thus transforming the ordinary into the realm of the extraordinary.
Ryan’s work has been featured at venues including the Tristan Gallery, the Fine Arts Work Center, and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, all in Provincetown, MA, The Gallery, Vineyard Haven, MA, the Artist’s Guild, Falmouth, MA, as well as the Tappan School, Washtenaw Community College, and Ann Arbor Art Association, all in Ann Arbor, MI. She holds a B.A. in Art from Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, MA, and has studied art at the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, MA, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor MI, and the Provincetown Museum School. Ryan resides in Provincetown year-round.
