KATE RYAN

Ordinary, every day objects populate Kate Ryan’s exquisite still life paintings. At first glance the work appears to be rendered with a precise realist sensibility, yet further inspection of the complex patterns of light and shadow reveal the artist’s fascination with abstract forms. These intentional and at times, subtle abstractions, give Ryan’s work it’s unique interpretation. Her use of reflection, light and shadow offer the viewer’s eye a chance to witness, more than meets the eye. Ryan infuses her paintings with playfulness and possibility, thus transforming the ordinary into the realm of the extraordinary

Ryan is currently teaching art courses at Castle Hill Center for the Arts in Truro, MA and at the Provincetown Museum School’s summer program. Ryan taught art in the Ann Arbor Public School system for 11 years. She holds an art degree from Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, MA, with further studies at Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, MA, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, and the Provincetown Museum School. Kate resides in Provincetown.
