NANCY NICHOLSON

For stained glass artist Nancy Nicholson, glass represents a seductive material which affects her on a deep, primal level. Her skillfully crafted windows accentuate the endless varieties of color, texture and opacity of the material, and take full advantage of the ever-changing light that illuminates the work. The employment of glass paints, acid etching and sandblasting allow Nicholson to enhance textures that are already within the glass, as well as create new ones. Working in a variety of subject matter, ranging from the still life to animated, distorted, patchwork cityscapes, Nicholson uses traditional construction methods of lead and copper foil, though her windows have a distinctively contemporary feel.

After graduating from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Nicholson worked as a professional stained glass artist for fifteen years, producing custom designs for residential and architectural interiors as well as free hanging panels for national and local exhibitions. In addition, Nancy has restored some of the finest and historically significant windows in the United States. She now resides in Brooklyn, New York.
