SAM FAIX

Faix’s works in oil on panel, and acrylic and collage on panel, originate as purely abstract pieces.  As he works, the artist allows the material to interact organically with space and form, as well as memory, to create a composition that is both visually, temporally, and psychologically complex. The end result is the depiction of an entirely unique place in time and space, spanning the gulf between the comfortably familiar and the mysterious unknown.

Faix has exhibited widely at venues on the east coast, including solo exhibitions at the Nahcotta Gallery, Currents, McLane Gallery, and Follicle, all in Portsmouth, NH, and has participated in group shows at the Currier Museum of Art, Manchester, NH, Kimball-Jenkins School of Art, Concord, NH, Walter Wickiser Gallery, New York, NY, Van Ward Gallery, Ogunquit, ME, The Art Gallery at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH, George Marshall Gallery, York, ME, The Copley Society, Boston, MA, and the Button Factory and 100 Market Street Gallery, both in Portsmouth, NH. He holds a B.F.A. Magna Cum Laude from the University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH.
