MARC CIVITARESE
Although based in traditional landscape painting, Marc Civitarese’s work departs from pure realist depiction and moves toward a more expressive, abstract sensibility. Rendered in rich tertiary tones, the resulting canvases range from evocative and spiritual, to brooding and menacing, to soothing and contemplative. These imagined landscapes represent both personal and solitary moments of specific time and reflection, as well as more universal themes of man’s relationship to nature .
Civitarese has mounted solo exhibitions at venues including Kathryn Markel Fine Arts, New York, NY, Miller/Block Gallery and the Copley Society, both in Boston, MA, Tristan Gallery, Provincetown, MA, and the Lowe Gallery, Atlanta, GA. His work has been featured in group exhibitions at Lanoue Fine Art, Boston, MA, Ute Stebich Gallery, Lenox, MA, Cortland Jessup Gallery, New York, NY and Provincetown, MA, among others. Corporate collections include Fidelity Investments and Beth Israel Hospital, both in Boston, MA. In 1999 the Copley Society of Boston awarded Civitarese the Pearl Art and Craft Award, and he was twice the recipient of their Juror’s Choice Award. Civitarese attended the diploma program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and holds a M.F.A. from the joint program of the Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts .
